I once read two books of Wilkey Collins (I don't know how to spell it correctly) and I liked them very much. And I also read some books of Darrel's and they were really great, especially "My family and other animals". My sister also likes Conan Doyle.

Ooooohhh....I read lots of books....I don't even know where to start.
I read The Series of Unfortunate Events (consists of 11 books so far) by Lemony Snicket (it's not his real name just so you know). Then I read the Traveling Pants series by Ann Brashares. I suggest everyone to read these wonderful series if you have the opportunity. I had to do a report for school on this author, and that's how I read the books. I was hooked on them right away.

The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams :) A bit boring for me ;)

Now I'm reading "The chronicles of Narnia" by Lewis. In my childhood I've never heard about it. But recently I've seen the film and decided to look through the book. Began with the 1st book, of course. It's just a fairy-tale, but I like it! :)

I read the Chronicles of Narnia during the Christmas holidays. I read it after seeing the movie. I loved it, even though it reminds me of Lord of the Rings for children.

I haven't read lots of books in english, only a few short-stories. But I adore the stories about Sherlok Holmes after Arthur Konan Doyle, so I've read the majority of them. Also, i've read the first and the second part of HP in English, it was very easy and, i'd rather say far moer interesting than in Russian. Anywhere, even in russian i prefer reading the books of English and American writers such as Roger Jelazny, Aisek Azimov, Robert Hainlaijn, Harry Harrison, Gerbert Wells, John Yundem, Yulki Kollinz and many others... Only since last year i beagn reading more russian literature, ana i wasn't disappointed at all.

I've read a lot of English & American literature since winter 2005.
Right now I am stuck in Wilde's "Picture of Dorian Gray" but it's managable.
Theodor Draizer's books are amazing - I've decided to read them again soon.
Отправлено: Aug 8 2006, 14:04
The Prophet, yeah "Picture of Dorian Gray" is good.
I've already read many books in English, "Hamlet" for example or HP books))
Отправлено: Aug 14 2006, 02:02
To tell the truth, personally I didn't read English books in the past at all. At least, during the past few years. I'd rather die, then read all those hard and 765 pages long books. But, unfortunately for me, I had to begin reading them sooner or later. And so, I did.

Reading "The Da Vinci Code" by Dan Brown, I enjoyed the concept of the book, and the idea of the story. Still, the myth is a myth. No one knows who Jesus Christ actually was.

Anywho~~ I read as much English books, as in Russian.

I read Rey Bredberry, and you know, he's good!! but I didn't like Hemingway. I read Tolkien, and he's much better in original than in ANY translation.
Also I believe that the only possible way to understan English poetry is to read it in original. Now i'm trying to read Robert Burns, but sometimes it's difficult to understand his Scotish dialect. Newertheless, I like him.
Don't you think that his verses very similar to Esenin's?

Отправлено: Feb 6 2008, 12:42
Lovenkrantz,
A have read all of the 7 books. It’s better to read in english cuz they make a lot of mistakes in the russian version. For example, Blaise Zabini became a girl, Neville - the POTIONS master (!!!!), Victoire - MARIE(?)-Victoire.

desertrose,
u just HAVE to read Khaled Hosseini's books, they are very touching. "A Thousand Splendid Suns" is about two young women who are forced to become wives to a spiteful man in Afghanistan. "The Kite Runner" is about the friendship and lives of two boys who also live under the Taliban rule in Afghanistan. "Memoirs of a Geisha" of Arthur Golden is also interesting... But my favorite is "My Sister's Keeper", about a girl who suffers from cancer, and in order to survive, she needs her sister's kidney... It’s very, very, extremely sad! Also read “The Joy Luck Club” by Amy Tan. ;) I’m sure u r gonna like all of those books!

In general, I love reading in English. The language is simple and expressive. Mostly, I prefer the modern American literature.
